Azores. Reinforcement of 20 PSP "weakens security"

The PS/Azores deputy to the Assembly of the Republic considered this Saturday that the reinforcement of the autonomous region with 20 agents “weakens the security” of the population and “disrespects the commitments” of the Republic.
According to Francisco César, quoted in a party press release, “it is not understood how, faced with a deficit recognised by the Minister of Internal Affairs herself of 249 agents in the PSP in the Azores, the Government decides to reinforce the Regional Command with just 20 elements”.
For the opposition deputy, this “discrepancy is unacceptable, it undermines the safety of the population and disrespects the commitments made”.
The socialist questions the Government about the measures it intends to adopt “to guarantee an effective reinforcement of the PSP Regional Command”.
The island's deputy wants to know whether the placement of new agents in the Azores will be ensured urgently, “in order to avoid the closure of police stations and operational constraints, particularly at Azorean airports”.
The executive “created a legitimate expectation among the security forces and the population” and “cannot simply ignore what it promised, it must provide explanations and, above all, it must act”, he said.
